About SyteCheck
SyteCheck is built and operated by Ascent Web Solutions, a small independent web practice. It began as a tool we wanted for our own client work and turned into something worth handing to everyone else.
Why we built it
Checking whether a website is any good means assembling an answer from half a dozen places. The serious platforms are built for large marketing teams and firms and priced accordingly — requiring a hefty investment — with a learning curve to match. The free tools are good and genuinely technical, but they cover only a subset of analysis categories and often lack compelling features: no history, reports lacking detail, no API, and hard-to-understand explanations you can't put in front of a client.
And none of them will tell you the thing people most want to know, which is whether their site actually looks any good. That question has always needed a human with real design acumen and an hour to spare. It is now answerable, and it turns out to be the check people care about most.
How we work
Real tools, not a scorecard
The performance numbers come from Google's Lighthouse, the accessibility findings from axe-core, and the markup errors from the W3C validator — the same tooling a professional would use, run for you and explained in plain language. The visual critique is a real browser taking real screenshots at three sizes and a sophisticated AI model scoring them against a fixed rubric.
We would rather say what we can't do
A scan reviews one page, automated accessibility testing catches only part of what matters, and some sites block automated browsers outright. All of that is written on the features page rather than discovered after you have paid.
No dark patterns
Cancelling your subscription takes one click on the billing page. We do not sell or share your data, there is no anonymous scanning that could run up someone else's costs, and we have no invented testimonials on this site because we would rather have none than fake ones.
